Music
Keenan Thomason is our music director. He’s a graduate of Oakland University and has a full-time position with Armada School District as the band director at the Middle School. Keenan is a multi-instrumentalist and an accomplished tuba player. He directs the adult choir and accompanies them on the Grand piano.
During the four years that Keenan has been at St. Mary’s he has revitalized our choir. The choir now performs one special concert, Joyful Noise, during the year as a fundraiser for the music program. They also perform at local nursing homes and go caroling at Christmas time.
At Christmas and Easter, a brass quintet performs at the services. Keenan is the tuba player in the quintet and the other musicians are accomplished Oakland University graduates.
Another special musical event at Saint Mary’s is the Keenan and Friends Concert. Once a year, Keenan gathers up talented musicians who play all kinds of different music for a benefit concert. This eclectic mix has included jazz bands, a soprano from the Detroit Opera Company, string ensembles, and a flute orchestra, just to name a few.
The all-volunteer choir practices every Wednesday night from 7:30 – 9:00. All are welcome to come join in.
